WA Backcountry Rendezvous
The WA Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers had its first Backcountry Rendezvous on June 8th, 2024. Home Range co-founder Carmen Vanbianchi hosted a 2-hour seminar on wildlife necropsies and kill-site analysis.

Home Range and the Okanogan Land Trust partnered at the Okanogan County PUD auditorium in Okanogan, WA for an evening of learning! Carmen Vanbianchi presented on our Lynx and Wildfire project.

Home Range hosted an evening with friends and supporters to hear about the work Home Range has been up to over the past year, had a meet and greet with our staff, and helpe raise funds to support our projects in 2024.

Give Methow 2023 Tabling Event 

October means Give Methow! In 2023, your community of Methow Valley nonprofit organizations tried something new – some mini-events to highlight Funday Mondays! Each Monday of the month, donors from that day were put in a drawing and the winner received an extra $1000 to put toward the nonprofit(s) of their choice.

First Tuesday: Lynx and Wildfire in the Methow Valley

The Methow Conservancy First Tuesday speaker series featured a presentation about the Canada lynx research we are conducting in the Methow Valley. The goal of the Lynx Project is to understand how lynx use burned areas, and collect the information needed to recommend management actions for resilient forests and abundant lynx habitat into the future. Carmen Vanbianchi, research director and co-founder of Home Range, gave an overview of the project including stories from the field, images of the 3 adults that were live-trapped during the first winter field season, and a demonstration of how our live traps work to safely capture and release these charismatic cats! Methow Wildlife Camp

At Methow Wildlife Camp, campers learned about wildlife living in the Methow Valley and how wildlife biologists study these animals. From camera traps to tracking, in this club campers spent their days outdoors exploring The Bush School campus and discovered all the life it holds.

Conservation and Natural Resource Career Day

FYRE, Okanogan Land Trust, and The Nature Conservancy hosted an event for high-school students to learn more about career pathways and the every day work that goes into caring for our environment. Home Range's Anna Machowicz and Clara Hoffman spent the day with small groups of students teaching them about careers as a wildlife biologist.

Soup Night - Lynx and Wildfire

Research Director Carmen Vanbianchi gave a presentation on our lynx and wildfire project at the Soup Night series, hosted by The Bush School at their Methow campus.

Recreation and Wildlife in Washington

Home Range's Becca Windell and Conservation Northwest's Kurt Hellmann presented at the Twisp River Tap House about how to recreate with wildlife in mind. The event was in partnership with the Methow Conservancy; you can view a recording of the presentation here

Lynx live-trap building party

To outfit lynx with GPS collars, we needed to build 30 box traps using a design that is safe, humane, and effective for capturing lynx. Volunteers joined us for a trap-building work party where we cut and assembled the PVC trap frames and wrapped the frames with chicken wire. By helping to build traps, volunteers contributed to this important, local wildlife research.

Home Range hosted a booth at this year's national conference of The Wildlife Society, where we made many exciting connections with biologists from near and far.

One-year Anniversary Party and Annual Fundraiser
Hosted at Meza in downtown Winthrop, we spent an evening with friends and supporters updating the community on the work we accomplished in the first year as an organization and the exciting things to come. A silent auction with goodies from local businesses and organizations capped off a fun event. THANK YOU to everyone who attended!!

HRWR Launch Party and Fundraiser
Get together with us at the OSB Taproom at TwispWorks for a fun evening of drinks, appetizers, silent auction packages, and a presentation by HRWR co-founders. All funds raised will finance HRWR startup costs, the purchase of critical field equipment, program scholarships, and more. We look forward to seeing you there!
